End of Life Recycling
We recycle all electronics used in our day-to-day business operations. When an IT asset is no longer able to be used, it is sent to an electronics recycling depot that is certified by Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES).
Sears has organized a number of special customer events to take back old electronics, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers for recycling. We have also run special events to collect gently used outerwear for donations to charitable organizations. During these events, customers appreciated having an easy way to recycle or donate unneeded items, as well as the in-store coupons they received for new merchandise.
In addition, Sears has partnered with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) to offer a fridge and freezer recycling program. Eligible fridges and freezers are collected free of charge from customers’ homes and sent for responsible recycling. In its first year, more than 3,800 15+ year old fridges and freezers were replaced with ENERGY STAR-qualified ones and responsibly recycled through this program.
Sears Canada will take back packaging on items delivered to customers’ homes. Sears also encourages our customers to return their old catalogues to our stores for recycling.
