Helping our Customers Live Green
At Sears Canada, we are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our retail operations and helping Canadians do the same in their homes.
As a large national retailer, one of the most effective ways we can reduce the impact of Canadian households on the environment is to help bring eco products into the mainstream. Sears has a large assortment of products that help Canadians reduce their energy bills, create a healthy home and preserve our natural resources.
Sears has set high standards for defining and marketing a product as an "eco-product". Although there are a number of "eco" and "sustainable" rating systems available in the market, we chose to create our own due to our wide array of product categories. There is no one specification that could be applied to all of our eco products. Sears exclusive eco rating system was vetted by a committee consisting of Sears business leaders and representatives from non-governmental organizations, including Environmental Defence and WWF-Canada. Our product assurance and testing procedures complement our eco rating system. Finally, before any marketing claims are published, they are carefully reviewed by our editorial department.
There are four main categories and eco icons that we use to classify eco products:
Along with one of these eco icons, eco products at Sears may also have a third party certification, such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and ENERGY STAR.
