Subject Profiled: Judy Setchell
Brantford, Ontario's Judy Setchell got creative when thinking about ways her store could raise money for Sears Children’s Cancer Charities. She combined fundraising activities with an e-waste take-back event – supporting the cause of children’s cancer and helping the environment at the same time!
Here’s how it worked. Over a one week period, Brantford residents were invited to drop off their unwanted electronics at Sears to have them responsibly recycled. For every pound of e-waste that was collected, Sears Brantford and event recycling partner Advantage Waste Systems, donated 10 cents to Sears Children’s Cancer Charities.
The event was a resounding success, raising over $2,200 for kid’s cancer and diverting 18,000 lbs of electronic waste from landfills!
